invest heavily over the years into purchasing our own class training
equipment. We pass the annual savings onto our class participants by
offering affordable classes, more promotional items to take home, no cost
meals, flexible class offerings, and a variety of payment options as a
result.

How we started and our goals
WHO WE ARE
Legendary Lifeguards is a team consisting of a certified lifeguard instructor trainer and 4 other certified lifeguard instructors. We teach classes in the WV / PA / OH area but are willing to travel elsewhere as needed. Our team has over 50 years of lifeguarding and instruction experience. Our goal is to help lifeguard candidates become skilled lifesavers in order to maintain a superior safety level for local aquatic facilities. We know the various dangers surrounding aquatic environments and work diligently to help candidates recognize when and how to respond to an emergency

WHAT WE DO
We offer quality Red Cross lifeguard training on a Friday night and all day Sat / Sun sessions. We have found a block weekend class is easier to teach than multiple weekday sessions over multiple weeks. For larger classes we have multiple instructors to give more 1 on 1 attention. We are one of the only instruction teams that is able to travel to a site and teach at customer facilties. This aids rural city and county park environments that have a need but find it costly and difficult to send candidates to local cities for training. Lifeguard certifications are good for 2 years before recertification training is needed.

Must be 15 prior to the last day of class (no exceptions)
Pre requisites to be a Red Cross certified lifeguard
Pretest skill
1
swim 300 meters using free style and breast stroke (un timed and use of goggles OK)
Pretest skill
2
swim 20 meters / retrieve 10lb brick off depth of 7-11feet deep / swim on back
Pretest skill
3
tread water 2 minutes with hands under armpits using only supportive leg kick
*all 3 pretest activities will be done at the beginning of a class
Review classes : for lifeguards to renew certification every 2 years
Re certificatioN
The review process previously was a 1 day demonstration of skills to the instructor as well as completion of written tests in order to retain certification. Over the years we have seen majority of review candidates have lost knowledge and skills over the previous 2 years due to lack of practical in-service training sessions offered by their management staff to keep staff skills sharp. We would have to quickly refresh skills training and knowledge to candidates to the point that we were retraining many all over again. We did not feel that we were putting the most qualified lifeguards back out in the field.
We made the decision starting 2018 to require ALL new and returning candidates to take the full class again. This will help instill the most current knowledge and skills practice necessary to be a quality lifeguard in the field. We will never put a candidate in a position that puts themselves or the public in harm.
